Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI, pronounced /ɪksiː/, IK-see) is an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg .
It is the procedure where sperm sample of the husband is washed and concentrated and injected into the uterus at the time of ovulation which can be done in a normal cycle or after ovulation induction .
It is a procedure wher a small telescope is introduced into the uters to visualize the cavity and make sure there are no polyps or adhesions inside .
Taking a small piece from testis and examining it for the presence of sperms and if found they are extracted and can be frozen or used fresh to inject it into the wife’s eggs during ICSI .
Taking some cells from the embryo to examine it for any abnormality and to determine the sex of the baby before putting it back inside the uterus to ensure that we are putting embryo with a higher chance of producing healthy baby .
Laser Assisted Hatching
Making a small hole in wall of the embryo if the covering (zona pellucida) is abnormally thick or in frozen embryo may increase the chances of making this embryo stick to the lining of the uterus .
Embryo Freezing / thawing
If there are surplus number of embryos we can freeze them for future use if no pregnancy occurs or after many years after delivery. There no stimulation or injection involved because we need only to prepare the lining of the uterus .
If for any reason socially ( delaying age of marriage ) or medically ( before treatment of malignancy or chemotherapy) we can store women’s oocytes (eggs) for many years for future use after marriage .
